October Playlist

Happy Halloween! Wow, October flew by quick. Well, to say the least my Halloween has started off a little rocky, nothing like a fire alarm to give you your first scare of the day. It’s interesting, but Australia doesn’t really celebrate Halloween. In the dining hall, they have snowmen instead of pumpkins. Now, this month had a lot of good music, here are the tunes I discovered/ rediscovered this month.

  1. Monster Mash by Bobby Pickett (performed by Claire Margaret Cortlett and Michelle Creber)
    • It’s Halloween so lets start off with a Halloween classic. This is one of my favourite Halloween songs. This version was done by my friend Claire, whom I met in Vancouver. She is one of the funniest people you will ever meet and she made this video in a series of others with her friend for Halloween.

2. The Night We Met by Lord Huron

  • I first discovered Lord Huron when I was listening to a pre-made Spotify playlist. I first listened to the song Love like Ghosts. Love like Ghosts is a song that is a part of my All Souls playlist because it was a song I listened to while reading that series. I heard this song though on the show the Originals.

3. Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac (performed by Lissie)

  • I first heard this version of this song in the movie Safe Haven featuring Julianne Hough, but was unable to purchase it at the time. I soon forgot about the cover until I heard it again in an episode of A Discovery of Witches, which is a new TV show based on Deborah Harkness’s All Souls trilogy. That book series is one of my all time favourite series.

4. The Entire Hamilton Soundtrack

  • So, I love musicals, I always have. About two or three years ago I got a few of the songs as not to be spoiled of the story, but while my friend and I were discussing the show she convinced me to buy the rest of the songs. Some of my favourites are Guns and Ships, Right Hand Man, Dear Theodosia, Take a Break, Burn, Stay Alive, and Satisfied.

5. Head Above Water by Avril Lavigne

  • The punk princess of Canada makes a not so punk rock song with this one. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard a song by Avril Lavigne, and hearing her voice not only takes me back to Canada, but to when I was a little kid when Sk8ter Boy came out. I heard this song on one of my discover playlists on Spotify. My favourite part of the song is the chorus.

6. To the Dreamers, joy, and Amen by for KING and COUNTRY

  • The first song I ever heard from for KING and COUNTRY was Priceless. My mum found that song and it’s still a favourite. I love the name of this group, I think it just sounds so cool and I wish I thought of it. Again, I heard these songs on one of my discovery Spotify playlists. The song joy, is such a happy song I can’t help but smile, whenever I hear it. Plus the music video has Candace Cameron Bure from Full House.

7. Fangs by Little Red Lung

  • This is another song I heard while watching the Originals I really like the mix of guitar and violin.

8. Coastline, The Woods by Hollow Coves

  • This group has such a chill sound that is super easy to listen to. These songs are great driving songs. I like how they aren’t overproduced and easy to listen to. I found this song while I was perusing Youtube one day.

9. Take yours, I’ll take mine by Matthew Mole

  • This artist kind of reminds me of Mumford and Sons. I think it’s because of the banjo. I found this song while browsing Youtube again and the video is really cute.

10. Breathin by Ariana Grande

  • I think Ariana Grande is an insanely talented artist. I found this song while watching a video by Kyle Hanagami. Kyle Hanagami is a choreographer and he sometimes films his classes and this was one of them. His students are mesmerizing to watch.

11. Duet by Philip Glass (from the movie Stoker)

  • This piano piece is real pretty and good to study to. I came across it when I was looking for other movies Matthew Goode was in. Matthew Goode is an actor who played in movies such as Leap Year, Chasing Liberty, The Immitation Game, Birthmarked, Stoker, The Crown, Downton Abbey, and now, A Discovery of Witches. I’ve never seen Stoker, but I saw the clip that had this song in it. He had to have a crash course in piano for this scene.

12. La Bicicleta by Shakira

  • The first CD I ever owned was Laundry Service by Shakira. I had a CD player in my room and that was what I listened to. So now instead of in a CD player I listen to a playlist created by Spotify, just for Shakira on my laptop.

13. Electric Love by BORNS

  • This song is such a jam. I found it on a Spotify playlist called best songs to listen to in the car. It’s such a bright and happy song it reminds me of sunny days wherever I am.

14. Knowing Me, Knowing You by ABBA

  • Okay so, my grandparents love ABBA and I remember listening to them, to and from Ottawa all the time. This song isn’t in the original movie Mamma Mia, but I heard it’s in the new one, but I knew I’ve heard it before. Probably in the car with my grandparents all those years ago. Anyway I heard it again this month while I was shopping at a craft store with my friend. She was looking for her costume components. It came on and I turn to her and say with way more excitement than normal, “this is ABBA!” . This song is so catchy, but I find the echoing bit really funny.

15. Who Knew by P!nk

  • I forgot how good this song was. I was watching a P!nk reacts to covers of her songs video when I came across this song again. The drum beat is to catchy.

16. Taki Taki by DJ Snake

  • This song is deceptively catchy. My friend and I were riding home on the bus when she showed me this song. At first I thought it was okay, but then I listened to it again and it has definitely grown on me. This song features Selena Gomez, Cardi B and Ozuna.

17. Look up Child Album by Lauren Daigle

  • This woman has an amazing voice. Sometimes it sounds like Adele, other times something completely different. There are so many songs on this album, but some of my favourites are Still Rolling Stones, Rescue, This Girl, You say and Look up Child. I first found this artist on Spotify, but just a couple of days ago my mum found her on the Ellen show and ended up buying the whole album.

18. Reflecting Light by Sam Phillips

  •  I love this song, there are so many memories attached to this song. I first heard it like most, from the show Gilmore girls. SPOILER ALERT it plays when Lorelai and Luke have their first dance, which serves as a kind of the tipping point for them getting together. Now, I like to listen to music when I read and I was listening to this song and the next while reading the book The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata. This song just puts a smile on my face whenever I hear it.

19. hello, hello by Lewis Watson

  • This song is so cute I can’t even. Like the last one it is a first dance song. I heard it from the TV show the Good Witch and it plays SPOILER ALERT when Grace and her boyfriend Noah have their first dance together. It’s such a lovely scene and makes my heart happy. This is also another song I listened to while reading The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, and now brings back all of the feelings of that book. Just listening to it right now makes me say awwwwwww.

Now that’s it for me. Happy Listening!!!
